Surjit Chana bio

Surjit Chana is the Chief Marketing Officer and VP Solutions and Strategy for IBM’s Systems and Technolgy Group and a member of IBM’s Global Senior Leadership Team.

Born in India, Surjit grew up in the UK, graduating from Surrey University with a degree in Physics. Upon graduation, Surjit applied his aptitude for technology to software development in IBM, where he secured patents for his work in the fields of knowledge based systems and “sympathy sickness” — which focuses on the cause and prevention of serial computer outages.

Over two decades, Surjit has broadened his career portfolio to include regional and worldwide IBM leadership roles in development, sales, marketing and distribution. His expertise is truly global; his latest European role following an assignment at the company’s New York corporate headquarters.

Working across a variety of industries, he has deep knowledge of collaboration software, supercomputing and the technology requirements of mid-sized companies. Previous roles have included Vice-President Marketing for Lotus Software, Vice-President Software Group Marketing Strategy, Vice-President High Performance Computing, Vice-President of SMB Marketing, General Manager of IBM’s Mid-Market Business and CMO for IBM Europe.
